Opinion: Is Boko Haram Really Defeated? | By: Tony Ogunlowo

The recent kidnapping of more than another 100 girls from the Government Girls Science Technical College in Dapchi, Kobe state shows that the sect is far from defeated: it still has the manpower, logistics, intelligence and organisational command to mount large scale raids. The Sambisa forest and the North East of Nigeria is a vast area of land covering thousands and thousands of hectares and if you dislodge the terrorists from one area they’ll simply pack their bags and setup camp elsewhere. To permanently displace them the ideal solution would be to carpet-bomb key hiding places, something Nigeria and...

Opinion: The Looming Collapse of Crytocurrencies | By: Tony Ogunlowo

I’m going to be a hypocrite here: whilst predicting the doom of high profitable cryptocurrencies I must confess that I do own some Bitcoin( – not a lot!) and like everybody else I’m speculating that the price will rise and rise and I can sell and make a great profit – greed! Enough said. For the uninitiated, a crytocurrency is a digital currency designed to work as a medium of exchange for goods and services, just like money, that uses advanced cryptography to secure transactions: because it’s not controlled by a central bank it can be used to transfer...

Opinion: Benue Killings And The Other Issues | By: Wole Aguda

The episodes of killings that Nigeria has witnessed in recent times are not new. While conceding that, I must however immediately submit, that they bear the trappings of an expansionist agenda that works against the spirit of unity that the Nigerian spirit actively espouses and passionately promotes. The Herdsmen killing problem of Nigeria is partially caused by the trap of conspicuous consumption in which we find ourselves. We must eat meat regardless of the price or the circumstances of its availability. The average Nigerian family has a cultural affinity to meat and its consumption. Despite recurring warnings from Nutritionists...

Opinion: Why Africa’s young people are the real winners at the CAF Awards | By: Benedict Peters

Almost nowhere on earth is football followed as passionately as in Africa. It is loved by Africans from all walks of life across the continent. This week, I am giving the opening address at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards in Accra, Ghana. This has afforded me a good opportunity to reflect on Africa’s relationship with football and how it can help deliver a brighter future for our young people. I believe we need only look to the Liberian presidential election for a fine example of the transformative power of football. Against the odds, football legend and opposition candidate,...

Introducing myweddingiv.com.ng; Nigeria’s foremost wedding invites store!

While planning for our wedding, my wife and I had a couple of stationery quotes for beautiful handmade wedding invites but as they were now out of our reach, we decided to make our own. I’m a creative person; it can’t be that hard, right? Wrong!!! I found myself wandering around the local stationery shop, not having a clue where to begin. In the end, I spent a fair bit of money on card blanks and decorations and the result was pretty poor. After my wedding (which was otherwise wonderful) I reflected on the poor wedding invite I’d been...
