Eden Hazard has been named the Best Belgian playing in a Foreign League for 2017. The Chelsea player piped out Man City star, Kevin De Bruyne to claim the top prize. He also fought off competition from the likes of Napoli forward Dries Mertens, Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
The former Lille forward was ecstatic on winning his first honour in his country. ‘It’s my first trophy in Belgium, but hopefully not my last! ‘I’m aiming to win the World Cup or the European Championships with Belgium. I’m happy with the trophy, but it’s not the most important thing. Football is a collective sport. I would like to thank all my team-mates at Chelsea and the national team, the managers and also those who’ve helped me in the last year.’
Hazard had 326 votes to beat the winner of the last two editions De Bruyne (315), Mertens (270), Lukaku (126) and Courtois (29).
