Why Man Utd fans should be patient with Van Gaal – Alex Ferguson

Former Manchester United manager, Alex Ferguson has highlighted reasons why the club’ fans need to be patient with the under-fire coach, Louis Van Gaal. In a recent interview with Sky sports, the former Scottish football manager said  they have to “ be realistic about some things – the number of injuries he has had: Phil Jones has played only seven games this season, Ashley Young, Valencia,  Shaw, these are big losses. “It doesn’t matter which team you are, if you have players missing of that calibre it has to have an impact on the team. “The other aspect which is always easy to forget there are also five new players in their first season at United, and two are young players in Martial and Memphis  and their promise is good. “You have to have some patience being a Manchester United fan and they have shown that over the years; in Matt Busby’s time, in my time. “For 150 years of history it is worth having a couple of years on the quiet side of success because they will always come back and come back strong. You have to give him credit, he’s given nine young players their debut. I think the future is...

Messi insulted over donation in Egypt.

Argentine star, Lionel Messi has been heavily criticized in Egypt following his decision to donate his pair of shoes. Here’s the gist. The 28 year-old was a guest at a programme tagged ‘Yes I am famous’ broadcasted on Saudi Channel, MBC Masr. During the course of the interview, the Barcelona star removed his shoes and handed it over to the presenter who requested for a souvenir for charity. The gesture has however stirred up some strong reactions from Egyptians. In Egypt and other Arab countries shoes are sometimes used as a symbol of disrespect, hence the furore. The Egyptian Parliament member, Said Hasasin who was infuriated by the gesture took off his shoe and held it up live on air during his TV show saying  “We Egyptians have never been humiliated during our seven thousand years of civilization… I will hit you with the shoes, Messi.”  Like that wasn’t enough, Egyptian Football Association official, Azmy Megahed added his voice to the condemnation. “Our poor don’t need him. Work shoes for him. I am confused, if he intends to humiliate us, then I say he better put these shoes on his head and on the heads of the people supporting him. We don’t need his shoes and we don’t need charity from Jewish or Israeli people. Give your shoes to your country, Argentina is full of poverty.” The journalist who received the controversial item from...

Fuel Scarcity: Charly Boy writes an open letter to Buhari

Charly Boy has written an open letter to Buhari over the lingering fuel scarcity in the country. Read Below. My dear Presido, I trust you are not letting the rot and the decay you met in the system overwhelm you. I was filled with expectation when you emerged winner. I prayed that you would be a catalyst in redirecting our drifting country; because many things spoil no be small. I can’t say that I was too thrilled with some of your selections for the ministerial posts, but I suspected you had a good reason for most of the choice you made. Your campaign was about change, which I hoped was all-encompassing- change in our mindset, our attitude to work, and above all, not business as usual. It is based on one of your outstanding ministerial selections that I write this personal letter to you. My Presido, please tell all them brown nosed praise singers, called politrickcians to hands off meddling and interrupting the flow of our Honorable Minister of Petroleum. Dr Ibe Kachikwu. We are all aware of the plots, nonsensical, local and ethnic intrigues called politics being thrown up to tamper with Ibe Kachikwu’s position. I warn that a stop must be put to this. We all know that corruption is fighting back the war against corruption. With the changes I have seen in NNPC and my personal...

Explaining the reasons behind the generous donation, the former Barcelona player stated that “I wanted the kids to have a decent pitch to play on as I never  had that. People can end up going down the wrong path, like alcohol and drugs, and that’s bad news for children. Whenever I am there I try to set up events, play with the kids and promote other things. When I do go to Tocopilla, I try to set up events and give footballs just to see the smiles on the children’s faces as I honestly believe that small children are the most important things in the world. ‘They learn from us as adults and it’s really important to do things like...

Opinion: Does Buhari Know? | By: Tony Okoroji

This past Thursday was hell in Lagos. I left home about 7.00 am headed for the State High Court in Ikeja. In the course of my work, I have to do the court circuit regularly. On an ordinary day, it would take me about thirty minutes to get to Ikeja High Court. I then would have time to catch up with the newspapers and engage in banter with the lawyers in court. Lagos lawyers are a very interesting bunch with interesting opinions on everything going on in the world. It is always a lot of fun to listen to them before the court registrar shouts ‘court!’ This past Thursday was no ordinary day. Something was terribly wrong. It was like all the cars in the world descended on the streets of Lagos and nothing was moving. There was no accident and no old ‘Danfo’ had caught fire. Lagos was engaged in an all-out battle to get a few litres of whatever gasoline could be seen in the city. It was the closest thing to anarchy that I have ever seen. In the crazy traffic, everybody was blaring his horn. Many cars ran out of whatever little gasoline they had, some over-heated, broke down only to compound what was already a terrible situation. At 7.30, when I should be in court, we had made very little progress. At 8 o’clock,...
