The herdsmen from hell | By: Femi Fani-Kayode

“Throughout history it has been the inaction of those who could have acted, the indifference of those who should have known better and the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most that has made it possible for evil to triumph”– His Royal Majesty Haile Selassie 1, Emperor of Ethiopia. // If there was ever a time to remember the words of Haile Selassie and speak out against evil this is it. With the abduction of the elder statesman and June 12th struggle hero, Chief Olu Falae, from his home by a group of Fulani herdsmen in south western Nigeria it is time for us to seriously consider the expulsion of all Fulani herdsmen from the southern part of our country. We thank God and commend the efforts of the Inspector-General of the Nigerian police that Chief Falae was returned home safely after a harrowing three days. Given his status in Yoruba land, had this not been so there would have been cataclysmic consequences for the unity of our country. It is because we wish to avoid such a scenario that it is important that we get these marauders and vandals out of our territory as quickly as possible. This is especially so given the fact that, by Falae’s testimony, it is clear that the Fulani herdsmen that abducted him were working hand in hand with Boko...

// 32 year-old Ghanaian actress, Nadia Buari has provided drinking water for deprived villages at Boko-Abisem, a suburb Suhum in the Eastern Region of Ghana. She gave them two water boreholes meant to serve the natives and pupils of the Suhum-Abisim LA School with drinking water. Etcetera says every Nigerian is to be blamed for kidnapping

You wanted to surprise your wife by shopping for the family on your way back from work, and as a sharp guy, you wanted to find out if it really cost, let’s say, N10,000 to prepare a pot of ‘banga’ soup as she claims. You stopped at Mile 12 market in Lagos where she normally does her shopping. You bought everything and discovered that ‘madam’ had been playing you ‘boju boju’ with the money for food. You were cursing under your breath and sweating profusely as you pushed your way through the crowded market to where you parked your car and a little boy said, “Oga, you too fine to dey carry your load by yourself naa. See as you dey sweat. Make I help you. Oga I no go charge you too much, na only N50.” ….. A statement like that should have made you feel important, but you didn’t budge. You simply ignored and looked ahead resolutely, much to the little boy’s disappointment.   You refused to accept his offer even when it was evident that you were struggling to hold on to the ‘gbogbo ero’ you bought. You didn’t trust the market boy or cart pusher, fearing they could take off with your stuff. Most of us are often guilty of this. Does it ever occur to you that by denying that little market boy or...

Opinion: Femi Fani-Kayode needs to shut up!| By: Jola Sotubo

Fani-Kayode has unfortunately been very vocal in recent times with his numerous postulations on Nigeria’s “satanic foundation” and how it’s destined to fail and various conspiracy theories of impending Northern domination. // // Ever Since Femi Fani-Kayode blamed Reeva Steenkamp for her own death at the hands of paralympian boyfriend, Oscar Pistorius and called her “a creature from the sea” who came “into this great man’s life just to destroy it”, I knew he wasn’t someone to take seriously. However, his response to elder statesman. Olu Falae’s abduction just takes the cake. Falae was kidnapped from his farm in Ondo State on Monday September 21, 2015 and Fani-Kayode’s response was to threaten the Federal Government.  “We cannot sit by idly and watch our leaders and elders being endangered, shamed and humiliated in this way,” the former minister wrote in a statement. “Let it be clearly understood that if anything happens to him and if he doesn’t come home hale and hearty we will hold the Federal Government responsible and there will be consequences. Those that are in power would do well to take what I have said very seriously,” he added. Fani-Kayode has done // nothing to hide his disdain for the Muhammadu Buhari administration and, in June, even linked the president to asuicide bombing in Maiduguri, Borno State. However his recent utterance shows an utter disrespect for himself and an immense insensitivity towards the delicate security situation in the country. It...

Musings: Status-quo maintained or new table toppers after this weekend?

Big games everywhere you turn this weekend. Big and consequential games. The season is relatively new or fresh (except in climes like Nigeria) but there are already clear indications of the battle teams in respective leagues are looking to fight. Every team fights a different battle right from the first blast of the whistle. While some battle to win the league or clinch a position in the top zone, others fight to maintain a mid-table position. And then there is the relegation battle which is usually brutal and often down to the wire. These battles make every game a must watch given the consequences the outcome may have on the teams. Speaking of consequences, table toppers in the NPFL, Bundesliga, English Premier League and the Serie A will all face a big test this weekend and may have to relinquish their lead if they fail to get positive result. NPFL Enyimba VS Wikki Tourist and Kano Pillars VS Warri Wolves are naturally an interesting game to see but with the circumstances surrounding those games at this point in time, it just got more interesting. Enyimba, Warri Wolves and Wikki Tourist occupy the first, second and third position respectively on the NPFL log and the gap between them is just 4 points. A win for Enyimba here might see them extend their lead further and strengthen their hold on the...

Niger Delta leaders tell Buhari, Oyegun, others to remove Oshiomhole

Top Niger Delta leaders under the aegis of the Niger Delta People’s Movement (NDPM) on Friday, advised Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to shun politics of witch hunting, imposition and urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to stand firmly by bringing Sylva to power in December 2015. Meeting under the aegis of the Niger Delta People’s Movement (NDPM) in Port Harcourt, the leaders accused Governor Oshiomhole of conniving with some aspirants to sabotage Sylva’s efforts at the party’s governorship primary. “We respectfully request the national leadership of the party to remove Adams Oshiomhole as the Chairman of the State’s Electoral Committee due to his inability to perform the duties required of him by the party.” The leaders also pledged to support the former governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva for the state’s topmost political seat. In a statement issued after the meeting by NDPM spokesperson, Mrs. Ibifuro Tatua, the leaders hinged their support for Sylva on his landmark achievements as former chief executive officer of the state. According to them, “the next governor should be someone who can govern, transform and develop the state as well as save it from drift after 2015.” “Bayelsa State requires in December 2015 the right leadership that will take it to the next level. Bayelsa needs a leadership that will provide the momentum for growth and prosperity.” The leaders, while describing Sylva as a trusted...
