A 2-year-old girl has become the first person to contract the deadly Ebola Virus disease in Mali. After she arrived the country from Guinea, she was taken to a hospital in Kayes after a nurse noticed Ebola-like symptoms in her, the Ebola tests later ran on her came out positive. It is not unlikely she contracted it from her father who died of the disease.

“The girl is still in the hospital in Kayes together with members of her family who might have been exposed to the virus,” Health Ministry spokeswoman Markatie Daou said.

Meanwhile Ousmane Kone, Mali’s minister for public health have asked people in Kayes to stay calm and observe hygiene measures.
