Biting incident: Luis Suarez issues out apology. Giorgio Chiellini replies

Several days after he was banned from the World Cup by FIFA, Uruguay forward, Luis Suarez has issued an apology to the Italy he bit. My apologies to Chiellini ‘After several days of being home with my family, I have had the opportunity to regain my calm and reflect about the reality of what occurred during the Italy-Uruguay match on June 24, 2014. ‘Independent from the fallout and the contradicting declarations that have surfaced during these past days, all of which have been without the intention of interfering with the good performance of my national team, the truth is that my colleague Giorgio Chillieni suffered the physical result of a bite in the collision he suffered with me. ‘For this: – I deeply regret what occurred. ‘I apologise to Giorgio Chiellini and the entire football family. ‘I vow to the public that there will never be another incident like.’ He wrote on his personal website. Nigeria are a good team who caused Argentina problems. They are powerful, quick up front and hardworking in midfield. They will make it hard for us.” Meanwhile defender, Joseph Yobo is confident Nigeria will cruise into victory and make it to the next round of the tournament. “We won the Africa Cup of Nations, booked our place in the World Cup without any trouble and now we’ve qualified for the second round. It’s not often that I’ve experienced so many pieces of good news in a row. That shows you we’re improving. This team is young, but it’s growing fast and learning quickly. We’re taking confidence from our campaign so that it can help us in our next match. I don’t see what we should be afraid of. I believe in this team, and I think we can do it.” He...

Bread & Butter Celebrities & Failed Marriages | By: Etcetera

If you listen to relationship programmes on radio, you would notice that many Nigerians are indeed struggling with their relationships and marriages and they are all seeking help. And because they do not have a glaring media attention serialising their issues, making judgements, giving strong commentary, poking them emotionally, there are chances of their relationships and marriages problems being solved. Why is it that with the fame, fortune and good looks, our celebrities’ marriages still don’t work? It has been a strange phenomenon that the union of people in the limelight hardly lasts, indeed. So the question is, why do most celebrity marriages crash frequently? Continue below Fame is dangerous to relationships for many reasons. Most troubling is that it demands that a couple spend time away from each other. One indicator of happiness in a relationship is the amount of time spent with one’s partner. Spending time together is necessary to sustain a relationship, yet celebrities tend to ignore this and only focus on how to become more famous. You need to keep up with each other’s lives, look into each other’s eyes, and be in the same physical space to feel the mood and emotions from each other. Without that, you might love each other, but staying “in love” demands much more than occasional get-together. The man who loves you may start losing feelings because of the...

Uruguay coach shocked by the severity of Suarez ban, quits FIFA position

Uruguay national team coach, Oscar Tabarez has announced his resignation as a FIFA committee member following the ban of one of his team players, Luis Suarez few days back. Tabarez who walked out of a press conference at the Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro on Friday said the Uruguayan player was being made a scapegoat. In his 15-min pre-match speech, Tabarez blamed the English press for mounting pressure on the FIFA disciplinary panel to punish Suarez. ” The decision was much more focused on the opinions of the media, and that media attacked immediately at the conclusion of the match. I don’t know what their nationality was, but they all spoke English.”It is not wise, at least it is not prudent to be in an organization with people who exerted pressure in order to promote this decision. They have “values that are very different from those that I believe I have.” He added. The 67 year-old continued, “Who wins, who loses? Who benefits, who is harmed? Who ended up getting things their way? We never thought or expected what we found out when we were told about the details of the punishment — of an excessive...

Different kinds of Nigerian women and how they operate.

So I’m drifting a little bit from style (what you guys know me with) to situation comedy (sit-com), Now this is a very insightful break down of the different kinds of Nigerian women, I’d box them into regions for better comprehension. Here they are- (1) AMAKA (The basic Eastern girl) Amaka is the type of girl who is ready to be whatever you want her to be, as long you have whatever she wants (cars, house, containers, Chieftaincy titles etc). Amaka is likely to be naturally fair skinned, hairy and quite pretty, she loves shiny clothes and red lipstick. Amaka is likely to have a little problem with pronouncing words that start with these two letters R and L , she is homely and very peaceful (until you take her for granted). Her weaknesses are self-composure and esteem as she is easily intimidated by classier woman (hence making the very loud Amaka become an introvert)…. But one good thing Amaka would leave you with is hunger for her meals . (2) FUNKE (The Ijebu drama queen) When Funke talks or whispers, you would think she’s quarelling with you. Her persona is quite funny. She’s likely to be dark skinned, busty and somehow pretty; she loves the night life and would stop at nothing to flaunting you before her competitors. She is likely to have more female friends, grouped into...

Super Eagles players reportedly boycott training over appearance fees

According to Goal.com, Super Eagles players boycotted training yesterday following a disagreement over appearance fees for progressing beyond the group stage of the World Cup. Recall that they threatened to boycott the 2013 Confederations Cup over the slash of their win bonus. Their coach and officials were left bewildered after they refused to show up at the Estadio Guarani, venue of their training. Soldiers and police officers waited endlessly to accompany the team to the stadium, fans who waited outside to catch a glimpse of the players were disappointed too, so were pressmen. However, after an hour, the team’s media officer, Ben Alaiya, came out to tell the press that the players were in a meeting and that training might still take place. They stated that it would be difficult to claim the bonus when they leave the tournament on Monday. To avoid “stories that touch the heart” and a repeat of what happened at the 2010 World Cup when the federation delayed payment of their appearance fees, in a meeting with the management, they insisted that the bonus be paid to them before their clash with France on Monday. Meanwhile NFF general secretary, Musa Amadu has left Brazil for Abuja to facilitate the release of funds from government coffers. With their failure to train on Thursday, it is not yet known if the team who is scheduled to...

“Suarez’s ban too harsh, could ruin his livelihood”- Fred (Brazil Forward)

We all feel for Suarez, well, others don’t. They deem the punishment meted out to the Uruguay striker for biting an opponent appropriate. Not because it was the verdict was the best FIFA could come up with but because he’s done it twice and has apparently not learnt from previous punishments. However, Brazil striker Fred thinks Suarez’s punishment was taken too far. Here’s what he told the press “You can’t deny that Suarez committed a mistake, but as a player and a human being who sometimes takes things to heart, I think the ban is too severe. The majority of people I have spoken to about it think it is fair but it is a punishment that could ruin his livelihood. I think he has to be punished, but I would really like to see him continue playing in this World Cup in...

Short Story: Diary of a fat battered housewife. (Part 2) | By: Damore Ali

( click here to read the Part 1 of this story) I had thought the following months would see a better light. The writing course I applied for while we were dating was finally approved in a mail sent to me one day. Awaiting his arrival in delight that day, I prepared his favourite meal. I was delighted for two reasons, my writing career which I would finally have the opportunity to continue pursuing and the fact that it was ‘pay day’ so he would have no financial excuses to give me. On getting home, he ate the food hungrily, and as usual, the very next thing was sex. He didn’t even notice my new outlook, and the little too much make up I applied. Who was I to resist? On nights when I tried to, he would leave the house and not come back for days. That night, I just wasn’t in the mood for that. When he was done exciting himself, I informed him about the mail I received from the university. Without much of a thought, he replied ‘you can’t go!’ What? Why? His reasons untold, safe for saying that there would be no one to take care of him. Seriously? Could he have been any more selfish? A month after, his father died of a heart attack. That was when things worsened, as his mother decided that...
