We are all Rivers indigenes. If you go anywhere around this. State and they are segregating against you, please, call my attention. We need the bottom-top approach for our people to benefit and improve their standard of living.” The Governor also announced the approval of a bus for the NIPF and 20 per cent scholarship for non-indigenes in the State amongst other largesse.”     His announcement threw the thousands of visitors into frenzy. Opinion: ‘Old Man’ Samuel Eto’o Could Still Make This Season Great

Consistent, reliable and dependable, Samuel Eto’o should be seen as a crucial and vital part of Chelsea’s squad. Eto’o’s performances, particularly in the second half of the season, deserve a great deal of credit and recognition. The often-understated Cameroonian has scored nine goals in 21 matches this season, many of them coming in Chelsea’s most vital matches. Last month, he opened the scoring in the 4-0 drubbing of Tottenham and in the 6-0 hammering of Arsenal.  He also opened the scoring against Galatasary at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League second round. Back at the end of December he scored the second goal in Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Liverpool, and we cannot forget his brilliant hat-trick which destroyed Manchester United in January! In contrast to his striking team-mates, Demba Ba has scored five goals in 18 matches, and Fernando Torres has managed a meagre four goals in 27 matches. Clearly, Eto’o has been Chelsea’s best and most trusty striker this season. Eto’o is a highly experienced and clinical striker. He is a constant nuisance to defenders, making intelligent runs and dragging defenders out of position. He loves playing on the shoulder of defenders, so often finding space in behind defences, with his opponents struggling to mark him effectively. His pace, acceleration and willingness to run at the opposition makes defenders quake in their boots. Never shy to shoot, Eto’o...

Hollywood actor mistaken for a homeless man offered pizza after seen digging through trash bin

There are good actors, great actors but some are exceptionally great. Seasoned Hollywood actor, Richard Gere falls into the three categories. He was recently spotted roaming the streets of New York like a homeless man but unknown to the unsuspecting public, it was for his new movie ‘Time Out Of Mind.’ Cameras were seen nowhere cos it’s been filmed from a distance. Shot in Manhattan and believed to be worth $100 million, Gere plays the role of Sedgwick, a man who finds himself homeless and tries to turn his life around by reconciling with his estranged daughter. Infact, a newspaper salesman who saw the actor actually believed things had gone bad for him. He told New York Post. “I saw him. He looked like a natural homeless guy. He didn’t seem like he was acting. He was an excellent homeless man. He was putting his hand in the trash. He looked like a real homeless guy finding something.” A 42 year-old French tourist, Karine Gombeau, also stopped to give the legendary thespian her pizza after she saw him digging through a trash bin and drinking a beer from a brown paper bag. But Gere rejected offer. “Je suis désolée (I am sorry), but the pizza is cold. Thank you so much. God bless you.” He replied.   Few days later, the woman was shocked to see herself...

Photos of Barcelona star, Dani Alves eating the banana thrown at him by a racist fan

Racism in football! Will it ever end? Lastnight at the Estadio El Madrigal during Barcelona’s match with Villa Real, a racist fan of the opposing team, threw a banana at Dani Alves while he was about to take a corner. To the surprise of many, the Brazilian full-back calmly picked up the banana, peeled and ate it before carrying on with the game. Now that was a brilliant response but ermmm, that ‘tactic’ shouldn’t be used often, such items might be laced with poison.lol. Footballers that have been subject to racist attacks include Mario Balotelli, Samuel Eto’o...

Opinion: Whether Half of a Yellow Sun is banned or not, we’ll watch it. | By: Akindele Opeyemi

History continues to be a relevant discourse because history is our problem. I have always insisted that the unfettered massacre of the Igbos before, during and after the Biafran War (1967-1970) is like a guilty conscience. Nigeria as a country fruitlessly try to repress it, yet it keeps rearing its ugly head. Like the proverbial corpse buried in a hurry by a bunch of frantic murderers (thanks to rich Yoruba language), the fact of the Biafran War has again let one leg out of the grave. After it reared its ugly head in Achebe’s There was a Country, Nigeria was engulfed in hot debates largely over peripheral issues and details, rather than confront the heart of the matter. And we repressed it like a guilty conscience. Here again, the Biafran corpse buried in a hurry has let out its leg in Chimamanda’s Half of a Yellow Sun! Now, Nigeria’s film board is trying to repress it. Though the novel upon which the movie is based was released years ago, why a seeming clampdown is being meted out on the movie is apparent: many couldn’t read Adichie’s novel due to high rates of illiteracy; and for those who are literate, endemic poverty means many still can’t afford to buy the novel. The BBC puts it succinctly: “The book was released in Nigeria but with the country’s high rates of illiteracy, a film is likely to get more attention.”...

National Church of Bey! Some Americans now worship Beyonce

I’m really baffled. Dunno if anyone is on the same page with me. She is being studied as a course, “Politicizing Beyonce” at Rutgers University, USA, Beyonce now has a church and religion. This is the most vivid proofs that end time is really near.  Some group of Americans have founded a church in Atlanta, Georgia called “The National Church of Bey”. The religion being practiced is called Beyism (based on award-winning pop star Beyoncé Knowles). They have a holy book called Beyble and are even pooling funds to build a temple. Surprisingly Beyonce is not involved in this but I’m sure she must be impressed with the whole idea. Here’s Pauline John Andrews, founder of the church’s reasons for establishing the organization. “We are very disappointed in the failure of the public to recognize the existence of a divine Deity walking among them. Deity’s often walk the Earth in their flesh form. Beyoncé will transcend back to the spirit once her work here on Mother Earth has been completed. As our congregation continues to swell, we ask that you consider what is more real; an invisible spirit on high, or a walking, talking, breathing Goddess who shows you her true form daily? Beyoncé’s spirit is entrancing. We know that she was sent to this place to spread love, peace, and joy … Open your mind to new...

Most Fathers Are Just Husbands | By: Odimegwu Onwumere

Not all husbands are fathers. That a man gave birth to a child legitimately or illegitimately does not make him a father. The man could be awesome, he could have all the aspects that are associated with men, but he is not a father; he could acquire all the property and money in the world, yet he is not a father. As a child, you wouldn’t understand your father better till you are of the age of wisdom and reasoning. At that toddler’s age all you do is look up to your father, who commands you and gives you assignments to do, but without any sense of direction of where he wants you to be in life. Many homes are like this! He allows you to just grow-up and succeed the way  your peers are succeeding or do things the way of your peers. Whether good or bad, he does not care to know; all he wants to hear or know is that you have succeeded at last. In his estimation he has the belief that your future depends on you. Even when he is financially rich, he prefers the money in his hands at the moment than your future, because the future he knows is just the immediate. Some might say that this is just sheer ignorance or wickedness, but whatever it is. He finds it hard to...

David Moyes’ Sack: Arsene Wenger condemns spate of sackings in England

Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger, in the wake of the David Moyes’ exit as Manchester United coach has voiced his concerns over the spate of sackings of coaches in England. The 64 year-old frenchman believes the quality of coaching is under threat because managers are not given enough time to develop and prove their worth. “If you want quality people in any job, you need to give them time to develop and to become good, or people with the quality will not come into our job any more. The average (job life) expectancy of an English professional club at the moment is 11 months, and that is quite unstable. Every guy who is married, has a family, will have a big hesitancy before he goes into that game. That means the quality of the coaching and the quality of the managing is under...
